I’ve always been one to bury my head in the sand when it came to my finances, and it just started to spiral out of control; I was forever one bill behind and therefore increasing interest and charges at a phenomenal rate.
Throughout the years I have struggled with my mental health but with my mounting financial difficulties it was becoming increasingly worse; there were times I didn’t want to wake up – that’s when I knew I really needed expert debt advice.
From the moment I made the first phone call to My Debt Plan, I felt an immediate relief and weight off my shoulders that they could help get me the debt relief support I needed.
Throughout the whole IVA process the team at My Debt Plan have treated me with respect and decency, something I haven’t felt from many people that I’ve dealt with regarding my debt issues, I always felt judged and embarrassed.
I’ve never really felt the need to leave reviews in the past, but I have been so overwhelmed with the help and support from the team that I couldn’t wait to provide them with my feedback about my experience because it has been so tremendous.
I’m forever grateful and can’t thank My Debt Plan enough for guiding me every step of the way and sorting out my IVA. Every single person I have spoken to has been kind and understanding and I am finally starting to see a light at the end of the tunnel.
My life can start again!
Acknowledging and talking about debt problems can be embarrassing.
Being young and naive, I thought money was endless, with no repercussion and that it wouldn’t catch up with me; I didn’t have a care in the world. I would spend continually on both big and small items, never recognising how deep a hole I was making for myself.
It finally got to the point that my debt was becoming overwhelming, and I knew if I didn’t sort out my financial difficulties now it would impact me greatly for the long term.
After speaking with the team at My Debt Plan, I now have an IVA in place and I’m starting to feel 10 times better about my situation, which has helped to improve my peace of mind and I can sleep better at night. Having this IVA payment plan means that all my debts are all in one place and it is so much easier to manage with one affordable payment month.
I am a lot more conscious now about the way I spend my money, I want to create a solid financial future for myself. With the help from My Debt Plan, I finally have a bit of money to treat myself now and again and can enjoy my time as a young lad with my mates again.
After sustaining a severe ankle injury, I had to take a lot of time off work. During that period, my mother was also diagnosed with terminal cancer, therefore I was doing my best to spend time with and support her as much as I could.
With little to nothing coming in from work due to being off sick, and my wife’s limited income, we were barely getting by and started relying on credit facilities and loans.
It was so easy to get a loan, but once we have maxed out one credit option, we needed another as it was the only way to be able to live and get through each day. Our debt level and number of creditors just kept building and building and the amount we were required to pay back each month was overwhelming.
My wife also started taking out debts to help us out, but it was getting to the point we didn’t know which way to turn, paying out more than what we had coming in, it seemed like a never-ending cycle of debt hell.
We were both extremely stressed and started to get depressed, tears became a daily occurrence, but then we found My Debt Plan.
Through their dedicated and expert advice, we now have an IVA in place that has consolidated both of our debts into one affordable monthly payment. We no longer only shop in the reduced aisle or cheap unhealthy ready meals; we can allow to buy ourselves healthier food that is dearer.
Luckily, I have managed to find a new job that is better suited to my ankle issues, and with the IVA that My Debt Plan proposed and put in place for me, we are able to buy luxuries such as new clothes.
If there is anyone out there looking at their bank account, wondering where the next £1 is coming from and not knowing where to turn, I would absolutely advise to contact My Debt Plan; instead of bringing yourself further down, pick yourself up just by making that phone call – we can’t thank them enough.
I struggled with my mental health after coming out of a long-term relationship. This had an impact on my judgement and resulted in me ending up in an abusive relationship. It was during this relationship that I developed a drug and alcohol addictions as a coping mechanism to deal with the abuse.
Throughout this period, I had to stop working as my mental health was deteriorating, which meant my income each month was reduced. The drugs and alcohol bill each month only increased and I was also required to pay for my ex-partners drugs. It was an extremely tough time to get through and that relationship was the start and end of how I got into so much financial difficulty.
After contacting My Debt Plan, I felt an immediate weight off my shoulders. Everyone was polite and they explained everything simply and concisely; every question I had was answered. Nothing seemed too much trouble and I never felt any judgement from anyone regarding my story and situation; they were all positive and just wanted to help me.
I know that I got myself into this debt position purely through bad choices but now that I have the IVA in place it makes me feel better knowing that at least I am paying some of the debt back through manageable payments each month. Yes, I have made mistakes, but I have done my best to rectify my mistakes to improve my life.
I do still struggle with my mental health but having an IVA to manage my debts has helped to improve it. I have changed my lifestyle across the board and because of it I feel like I can be freer.
At the end of the 5 years, I can start again and have a clear conscience. I also know where to not go wrong again and if I do need to borrow credit again it will be in a much more responsible way.
I am also happy to say that I’ve just celebrated a year’s sobriety.

**Of 2,381 IVA cases approved between January-December 2023, the average expected write off assuming successful completion is 74%.
A debt write off amount between 25% and 75% is realistic, however, the debt write off amount will differ for each customer upon their individual financial circumstances and is subject to approval of their creditors. Any remaining qualifying unsecured debt in your IVA will be written off, however some unsecured debts will be excluded, such as court fines, child maintenance and student loans, therefore you will need to continue paying these both during and after the IVA.
